This guy may have initially thought you were his type and therefore told you he liked you. However, over time, as he got to know you better, this could have changed. Perhaps he realized that the two of you were not as compatible as he initially thought and ghosted you. This can be for all sorts of reasons. For example, he may have been attracted to your looks or intelligence. However, over time, the very qualities that drew you to him may have made him feel inadequate.

Reason 3. He ditched you for someone else

It’s possible that this guy met another person who he was more interested in. Even though he did have feelings for you, he chose the other person over you. Since you were not in an official relationship, he didn’t see any need to break up with you properly. Instead, he ghosted you as a convenient way of ending things.
