If you’ve been chatting to a girl and made a flattering remark in hopes that she’ll respond positively, you may be surprised if she doesn’t reply. You’re probably wondering “I complimented her and she left me on read, why?” Maybe you complimented her on her physical appearance or her personality thinking that it would help you win her over. However, there are several reasons as to why this may have the opposite effect causing her to leave you on read.
Reason 1. She’s friend-zoned you and saw your compliment as hitting on her
If this girl has already friend-zoned you i.e. does not look at you in ‘that’ way, then she may have been chatting to you as a friend. When you complimented her, she may have realized that you’re actually trying to hit on her. She left you on read because she wanted to take a step back and not give you the wrong impression that she’s interested.
Reason 2. Your compliment was creepy
Depending on how you complimented her, it’s possible that your remarks came off as creepy. This is more likely if you made any crass comments about her physical appearance. It also depends on the girl. Some girls would be put off by a guy texting “nice legs” but others may not. Basically, anything with inappropriate undertones can easily get you left on read.
Reason 3. Maybe she’s genuinely busy
If it’s not been that long since she’s read your message, it’s possible that she’s just busy. She might get back to you once she has time.
Reason 4. She didn’t realize your compliment warranted a reply
If your compliment was very simple and flowed naturally from the conversation, it’s possible she didn’t think it was necessary to reply. For example:
Girl: I have to attend a dinner tonight but I’m super tired! Really not looking my best.
Guy: Don’t worry you always look great.
In this conversation, it’s not really that necessary that she replies to him. At most she might say something along the lines of “haha thanks!”

Reason 5. She was chatting to you out of boredom and now wants to ghost you
If this girl has left you on read for a while and you’re losing hope that she’ll ever reply, she may be ghosting you. She may have been chatting to you out of boredom initially, but when you complimented her, she realized that you were trying to get closer. As a result, she decided to cut things off by ghosting you since she’s not really that interested.
